Turn twigs, leaves, seashells and other small objects into copper! Learn how to electroform with copper to make charms for jewelry. The class will give you the confidence you need to understand electroforming and also electroplating. We will coat various objects with conductive paints and then electroform them. Students will be taught how to work with various forms and special requirements needed for each, including how to work with multiple pieces. Plating techniques will be covered in class. Patina finishes will also be offered. Finish pieces by drilling, wire wrapping and more. Add beads, pearls or other embellishments to complete jewelry pieces. The finished pieces will be made into charms, earrings, pendants or beads.
The class includes the use of electroforming controllers that do not require user intervention. The lecture includes information on how to electroform using a rectifier as is done traditionally for electroforming. The controllers are not included in the kit, but may be purchased after class.
Class Fee: $120
Kit Fee: $25. Materials in kit include varnish, conductive paint, wire, shared supplies for electroforming, plating and finishing supplies.
Students please bring: 2 -5 small pieces to electroform on. The pieces must be thoroughly dried if using organic pieces such as leaves, twigs, pods or seashells. You can also form copper on small objects such as small plastic charms (buttons, crackerjack toy, glass beads, etc). Pieces can also be made of metal. Bring round nose and chain nose pliers, wire cutters for finishing work.
Resin clay is a 2 part mixture that cures at room temperature. It comes in a variety of colors and can be shaped and sculpted in a variety of ways to make jewelry. Learn to make faux concrete, copper, and wood with the clay. You can embed objects into the clay or paint it after curing. Unlike polymer, this clay does not require baking to cure, so there are materials you can combine with the clay without worrying about the effects of the heat. Learn the properties of the clay and a variety of ideas for using the clay for jewelry application. The best feature about this clay is that it is very strong and will not break as easily as polymer clay, which allows you to make delicate pieces.
Students will need for class: small beads, rhinestones or objects to embed in the clay. Bring cookie cutters, needle tool or similar tool to pierce holes in clay, small paint brush and clay roller, sculpting tools or any tools applicable for polymer clay. A pasta machine is NOT needed.
Class Fee: $120
Kit Fee: $25. Epoxy resin clay, rubber gloves, wax paper, acrylic paint, tubing for bead cores.
